Mediterranean Memories: Costa Brava Collection
Drawing is so connected to travel for me: I feel so inspired by the essence of places, seeing new things, capturing details of buildings, objects, or organic nature. Memories of places visited and imagined.
I’m so fortunate to live so close to one of my favourite places in the world, the Empordà region and its magical Costa Brava, close to the border with southern France (in fact, for the initiated, I realised recently my Pluto line in Astrocartography runs through this region).
I made several visits this year up the Catalan coast to rest, reconnect with nature, with loved ones, and with myself. To experience the beauty and simplicity of the Mediterranean lifestyle. And, as always, to draw.
For my illustrations I enjoy exploring fun digital colours and experimenting with form and effects in a way only the digital can offer, but throughout the years I’ve realised that I also feel the need for a grounding, handmade, earthy artistic practice to balance things out. Both are beloved and essential for me.
Oil pastels have become my favourite materials for drawing by hand; I love the rich pigments and textures in these pieces. Making them slows me down, makes me feel very present in my body, and connects with different parts of my brain.
Out of these trips emerged a small collection of atmospheric oil pastel pieces that are infused with the essence of the Mediterranean. They flowed out of my fingertips with such joy and ease! I’m so excited to release these drawings as limited edition prints — my first collection of limited edition prints of the year, and in fact the first collection in many years — the Costa Brava Collection.
I invite you to luxuriate in your memories of summer by the water, feeling the sun, salt, sea and wind in your skin, in your hair, and in your closed eyelids, the sound of lapping waves in your ears, a gentle smile upon your lips.
