Pledge & Accountability — Community & Planet

As a business, my vision is to use the resources at my disposal to foster and give back to community and planet, in a local and international capacity, supporting those on the frontline fighting for equality and change. Through the pledge to donate 5% of shop sales to support women’s aid, Black and Indigenous peoples locally and internationally, in 2020 we were able to give over €310 to the below projects and organisations. Sustainability

In 2021, we will plant a tree for every artwork sold by working directly with Treeapp, a reforestation organisation that aims to plant millions of trees every day by 2022. In this way, we offset a portion of our carbon footprint by planting trees in places like my native Brazil, home to the biggest biodiversity on the planet, so endangered by continuous logging operations, frequent wildfires and government sabotage.

Furthermore, my vision as a maker is to honour and give back to the Earth by using responsibly sourced and/or natural materials and processes whenever possible, creating hand–made objects and artworks with intention, that aid in contemplation, ritual and beauty. 

Creative Community

A total of 14 scholarships to The Creative Map were awarded to members of the creative community in 2020, as an effort to build a more equitable industry and fundamentally empower creatives across the globe.

Impacting Black Lives

Impacting Black Lives is an initiative of an emergency nature to assist Black families led by single mothers and Afro-entrepreneurs, a project of income transfer and promotion, seeking to help families that are unassisted, due to all the quarantine measures and social withdrawal required around the global pandemic situation.

Helping the Pataxó Peoples with Coronavirus

The Pataxó are one of the few indigenous people who survived the massacre and genocide caused by the Portuguese since the year 1500 in the extreme south of the Brazilian state of Bahia. Because of their genetics, indigenous people have a weak immunity system and therefore are more susceptible to early deaths. Social distancing is crucial for them right now, however it impacts their ability to survive. All the funds raised will be used for the purchase of food and basic hygiene products such as soap, bleach, and hand sanitizer.

Topmanta — Popular Association of Street Vendors of Barcelona

TOPMANTA is the first fashion brand and store launched by the Union of Street Vendors in Barcelona, seeking to improve the street vendors’ living conditions as a community, take people out of the streets and regularise their situation. Current legislation in Spain and institutional racism prevent migrant people fleeing their home countries (whether due to poverty, war, violence or persecution) from accessing legal and dignified work. We are migrants and we are people of peace; we risk our own lives fleeing from our countries in order to have a decent job and help our families to survive.

Instituto Marielle Franco

Marielle Franco was a Brazilian politician, sociologist, feminist, socialist, and human rights activist, executed in Rio de Janeiro on March 14th, 2018. Franco had been an outspoken critic of police brutality and extrajudicial killings, as well as the February 2018 federal intervention which resulted in the deployment of the army in police operations. The Institute created in her name will make all efforts to demand from the authorities that investigations reach the political mastermind of this crime — two years on, still unresolved — and empower and support women, Black and slum people who want to occupy politics, in order to open the decision-making spaces.

Live Craft with Catarina Mina

A project to aid 300 traditional Craftswomen in the Northeast of Brazil who were stripped of their means of survival during the 2020 covid-19 pandemic, organised by Catarina Mina, the first brand with open costs in Brazil: a honest conversation between who produces, who draws and who buys.
