Journal Prompts for the Solstice & New Year

This week marked the arrival of the Winter/Summer Solstice and the approach of the end of the year. And what a year it’s been.

As I recover from a bad burnout episode in November, I have been reflecting a lot on how, and where, I spend my time and energy. It’s made me realise the importance of boundaries for myself with the different types of work that I do.

This time of the year can also make us reflect on, and often question, what we’ve accomplished, where we’ve been, and where we want to go moving forward. There is often an energy that makes us question our purpose, and whether we are staying small, or taking steps towards growth and expansion.

Below are some journal prompts to help you pause, assess, and set your intentions for the new year. (If you can respond with pen to paper, even better.)

Journal Prompts for the Solstice & New Year

How am I spending my time everyday? What am I really prioritising?

  1. Is there a disconnect between how I’m spending my time and what I want to accomplish?

  2. What distracts my energy the most? How can I create boundaries around these distractions?

  3. What helps me focus on the goals that are important to me?

  4. What do I feel I don’t have time for, and is that perception true?

  5. Are there any big goals I feel I want to accomplish and haven’t made much progress with yet? And is that a cognitive distortion, or is it real?

  6. What is the role of resistance in my life? What is it stopping me from doing? Am I resisting out of fear or out of misalignment?

  7. What gives me energy, and what drains it? What does each of these feel like?

  8. What makes me feel fulfilled and like I am showing up every day in my purpose, ready to pursue my potential?

  9. What am I ready to release and forgive myself for in 2022?

  10. What am I inviting into my life in 2023?
